Since we were taking over other threads I decided to make a new thread dedicated to talking about the possibility of a turbine powered exocar. I know there has been turbine powered cars before and even a turbine powered motorcycle.

Here is a link to a good video explaining the Y2K turbine bike:

The engine they use in the bike is called the Allison C-18 engine I believe. It looks to produce about 317 shp and ~450 ft-lbs torque. I think if you could hook this up to a CVT transmission so you can keep the revs in the power band it should be pretty fun.

I know I could probably never do this, but it would be really fun to see someone else try and do it. I'm guessing the Allison gas turbine engine is uber expensive as the Y2K bike is $185,000! Maybe someone could swap these into an SL-R and sell them for $200,000.

Supersweet!! Like I said in the other post, I found a chart somewhere that had a rather large list of gas turbine & turboshaft engines listed by manufacturer, weight, power, rpm, etc. I have no clue where it is, but it's somewhere out there on that there interweb...

Would be a sweet idea, but as you said, rather cost prohibitive. We all need a rich friend who's a little crazy. LOL

I searched for a chart like you are describing yesterday on the web, but could not find it. The company that builds the Y2K bike is called MTT and they're located in Alabama or something like that. Maybe they'd be willing to just sell the engine. I couldn't find any used Allison C-18 engines last night.

Yeah, I'd bet you could get the engine. Now as far as the transaxle, how about the Nissan CVT? I know shifting would be fun & all, but the CVT seems to be just about the perfect choice for that kind of powerplant. I think we already discussed this though. LOL

The really cool thing about a gas turbine is they're light, make gobs of power, and will run on just about anything flamable. LOL

Laters,
