Which Engine Do You Prefer?

Maybe you could be more specific and add more engines to the list. Off course everyone wants a 300hp honda over a 200hp honda. Maybe not if one is supercharged and lacks reliability? You could add
4g63 C heap lots of after market
sr20 very light not sure if it comes with a turbo in fwd setup
mzr 2.3 disi new and more expensive
vw 1.8t pleanty of after market
srt4 heavy but cheap
Karlo -
Would it be possible to add the Hayabusa engine to your poll?
175 HP, 10,000 RPM redline, 6 speed sequential trans, total engine / trans weight of 175 lb, at a cost of less than $4,000.
Thanks

The poll only lets me do 5 choices :)

Can you narrow it down to your 1rst optional choice and I make the change.
Hayabusa engine ='s 175 HP stock, 10,000 redline, 6 speed sequential trans, and an engine trans weight of about 175 lb total.
There are also a lot of aftermarket performance parts available including cams, ported heads, big bore pistons, and turbos.

I'm thinking a Superchipped VW 2.0TDi PD170 Diesel :)
I voted Honda VTEC, but the Nissan VQ35DE with a six speed manual and LSD is probalby a better engine for performance. Much more torque, and with FI it would be a monster powerplant. It is funny how all these new engines are less attractive than engines from 20 years ago since they all get covered up with a big piece of plastic. At least the Honda will sound great hitting that high redline.:coolnana:

Which Engine Do You Prefer?
LS series from 2001. Readily available, not too expensive, lightweight.
Good power/torque for most applications.
Depends for which kind of car or layout.
for a transversely appointed 4 cylinder I'd pick a 4g63t

I prefer the Honda K series engine. One of the most efficient and strongest 4 cylinder engines ever made. When they are capable of making 300whp NA, that is enough for me to make my decision. My SL-R will be sporting the 2.4l version from the Acura TSX.

Mazda DISI turbocharged. 263 - 278 horsepower in a compact 4 cylinder turbo engine. Schweet! Hayabusa is nice, except the differential and reverse become an issue for rear-engines cars.

After doing some recent research I am convinced that many would be very well off with a GM 3.8 V6 - maybe the Ford V6 too but i know very little about it.
It's the same weight as many, many other motors that are smaller, has as much or more grunt from sheer size and is bulletproof and any local mechanic can sort one out for you for cheap. It's fuel economy (the later ones) is legendary for its size which allows you to carry less fuel - something people overlook, especially with an aftermarket turbo or supercharger. The 3.8 comes in standard supercharged form as well.
I'm convinced and I don't think theres enough research into outside the box done. I give a mighty mention to just about any Subaru motor as well especially if you want low weight and low CG - you would have to go longitudal location with the Sub motor though.

The Subie is taking the place of the venerable VW flat four in many, many dune buggy and kit car applications. They are even finding themselves in flat 6 conversions for 914's. More than one company offers a transmission adapter plate. Low weight, low center of gravity, optional turbo power (300hp) make this a good choice. 4WD anyone? :)

Karlo:
There seems to be Pro's and Con's of each advertised engine option listed on the SL page.
If Possible can you add the 4g63t to your list.
Since there is also the Nissan, the Subaru, the GM 3800 V6, and the GM 5.3 V8 (all in a Transverse set up) Would you mind starting another poll just below the one I mentioned before, and ask for peoples reason for liking what they chose, over the other choices. Therefore we could also know why the other were NOT chosen.
The more I dig into this, the more interesting things become. I have never been into the smaller engines, but I am really enjoying the Education everyone is bring to the table.
I'd set the polls up myself, but I haven't figured out how.
Thanks,
Ty O'Neal

I think the best place to discuss engine pros and cons would be the Engine, Gearbox Etc Thread. I add the 2 more, the max number of choices to the pole.

Another thing to consider...is the engine available with a dual shaft transmission? The VW is, and the ford is or will be (in Europe at least).
