Any options for the SLR with the stock seats? They need to be DOT 209 approved

I was looking at the Schroth Rallye series...

I like that easy buckle / latch. VS the other 4 way system.

Install a standard 3 point inertial real seatbelt if at all possible.

I had the harness you listed below as well as standard 4 point harnesses and it was a real PITA. Just jumping in a taking the car for a quick spin would be much better with a standar 3 point belt. You could always bolt in a 5 or 6 point haness if you go to the track.

I have the 5 point RJS belt. Funny thing is that there's nothing about it being DOT compliant. However, it exceeds all race series limitations and tests.

Belting myself in is no more difficult than strapping into a helicopter. You just have to make sure everything is within reaching distance. So I understand the issues of having just a race harness.

Nj requires a dot approved belt not sure
I'm happy with just a 3 point system.

You may have to call, but I believe you can get something like this that is DOT approved.

These belts will be as safe as what you've been using in your street car for years, besides you will impale your face on an SUV bumper in an exocar long before the seat belt is an issue. :(

It a risk we take to live lfe to it's fullest.

I'd recommend just the four point set up from the first post. The space between my seats is already cluttered with two 3" seat belt sets and the extra webbing from the adjustments (looks like there's four belts in there). Just my two pennies.

I agree with you, Steve. Besides, with a 3 point harness one might have a chance to duck before the SUV bumper impales ones face. :D

Emailed the guys at hms who seem to be the distributed for them in the USA - this was there response.

See what fran says (if he sees this)

******** Looks like a great project! Are you going to add slots in the seat for the belts to pass through, and if so, roughly where about would those slots end up?* If you have to run the shoulder belts around the outside of the narrow section of headrest, they may be too wide as they cross your upper body.* Slots in the seat are ideal as they will help to keep the belts from spreading out wider in the event of an impact, however with this project you may not have that luxury.
*************** The horizontal bar is the way to go for sure, however it does look a little low, but it’s hard to tell without knowing if the belts are going to end up sliding through that seat via some holes.* Basically you are shooting for a 10-15 degree of a downward angle from the tops of your shoulders, to the bar the belts will be mounted to. It’s possible another horizontal member might need to be added, but that should be pretty simple between the two uprights.

Hope this helps!

When I did the track day last May, the inspectors said my car surpassed the necessary requirements for running on the track. I'm 6'5". I thought I was going to have issues as well.
