There have been some rumors on the internet that Brammo might be in trouble? Can anyone add to the rumors? :(

As the story goes (fuzzy details), Brammo has sold the North American rights to build the Atom to a Canadian based company (Trak). Production of Brammo atoms is said to cease soon.
Unconfirmed report.

I was wondering how many Atom Brammo has built. See Below
March of 2007 from www.canadiandriver.com (http://www.canadiandriver.com)
"Should you decide an Atom would look good in your driveway, place your order now; 80 have been built and about 100 are on order, and it's currently a 210-day wait from signing your name to showing your friends. Right now, about three and a half cars are built each week, but Brammo is aiming for one a day"

The Official Unofficial announcement that I read said that Trak Motorsports will be opening their U.S. office in Virginia. I assumed that this also meant a production facility like Brammo's.

This will be interesting how Trak makes the transition. My thoughts are that Brammo will "sell" all the new equipment they bought to be the USA manufacture of the Atom to Trak, that transition period might take months. Trak must still see some profit in manufacturing the Atom, but what did Brammo see that motivated Craig to get out??

The Atom was/is so grossly overpriced, how were they not making 40k profit per car?

Maybe the principals had a background in government? If fran can provide everything the Atom does except the drivetrain and tires (which can't be more than $15k or so), the Atom should be making between $25-40k per car or so.
But then again, they really bulked up the facility to increase production only to get caught short of cash supposedly.
Not good for their customers.

If Fran gets a spot on Top gear with the stig beating the lap time of an Enzo, expect to see a slightly higher price :)

The Atom is designed to be marketed to the upper class. Similar to the Deronda Type G. Its kinda like the Gas prices. As demand goes up so does the price. Free market.

I would not say upper class. Simon had always wanted it to be an affordable supercar and has kept the costs down in the UK by staying small. I'm certainly not upper class in that I had to get a loan for my Atom.

I got a loan easily through my credit union. You can also do a title loan using another car as collateral. When I asked they said "we just need a VIN and car insurance"

Can you give us some of your insight on what happened with Brammo / Atom?

I dont know any specifics, I think it was just a matter of growing too fast and not selling enough cars. Plus their direction was all over the place. Supercar, then Atom, then electric motorcycle, then electric supercar, then websites talking about boating and aerospace.

does the Atom even have a VIN? does the SLR have a VIN?

Yes, but it is a special type of VIN that is given to low volume auto manufacturers. It is 13 digits though so fit into the DMV computer just fine.

pretty sure you gota go get one for the SLR, i could be wrong tho, but im under the impression that it is sold as an incomplete kit car getting a vin through your local DMV is your duty.

I believe Fran gives you a Certificate of Origin or something similar to that. When you go to the DMV you have to bring that along with all of your receipts for everything you buy for the car (engine, transmission, ecu, etc...). They want to make sure you're not using any stolen parts. I imagine they give you a VIN number or something similar when they title the car.

it depends a lot on the state. So check you local DMV website before ordering. some states are easier than others *cough* california *cough*

yeah thats a good idea. cause we had a crack down in NOV last year! Some cars got taken cause they had stolen parts on them and some for Street Racing. Some of the cars from the street races are now, police cars.
Twin turbo 350Z on some gold VOLKs and a Kenny Bell Superchargered Cobra! LOL
