There seem to be lots of Great engine options out there. :)
One thing that is in the back of my mind on an engine choice is: is fly by wire or your standard throttle cable driven. Having no experience with fly by wire, just forum info, it can be a challenge from what I have heard?
My approach would definitely be a throttle cable. It keeps things more simple and that's pretty much the point of these cars.

I can not agree more on that one.... I too have no experience with the fancy one, but can only imagine it to be not as "feedbacky" as the cable version, almost similar to the way a hydraulic clutch feels compared to a cable clutch... especially on a bike. The cable clutch just gives you so much feedback...

My daily driver has fly-by-wire and I would actually prefer the ol' throttle cable. Fly-by-wire seems artificial. For example, when you come to a hill your natural reaction is to press a little harder on the gas, however, with fly-by-wire you keep your foot at the same position and the car maintains its speed. Also, if you have traction control the computer interferes with the throttle and it drives me nuts! On ice you can floor it and the engine does nothing. So if you do have it, make sure you can turn traction control off!
