This may be a strange idea.
Are there any cars that could be stripped to a frame, reinforced with an exo-skeleton a.k.a. structural bracing and used as an exo car?
I'm thinking of a sort of home made exocar. After all, isn't that what many racing Honda Civics are? They just strip everything out of the car and put a built motor in it, Wallah! 10 to 12 second car?
The more I think about it, the more crazy it seems.
But bored I am.

Yeah, 50% chance my next project will be a micro car with an external chassis - I can buy new Suzuki Alto's here for a song.
This is the old basic shape but the ones here have a bit of a body kit as well...

Or an electric car like this.. (yes this is a link!)

Many benefits such as safety equipment like air bags as well as retaining a nice comfortable interior. I'm still thinking about the door situation though, got to get in and out somehow yet I want to run the external frame the whole way down the sides, upper half doors maybe with sliding glass.
I'm sure you get the idea.

I thought a nice platform for a car would be an aluminum honeycomb sheet. Extremely strong, light weight, and with the ability to build up from there. Why not, it's what they make airline decks from.

Yeah but thats race car thinking from the past, now with the high quality grades of sheet alloy and alloy steels commonly available its too much hassle unless you do it also from an asthetic point of view as well - and it does look good.
