I am a homebuilder in the UK and I have built this two seater road legal race car. K-series engine ( for sale on ebay at the moment as F1-2).

My current build is an R1 powered "atomesque" car which I have been building on and off for about 7 months. I'll let the pictures tell the story:

hey hey hey.... look who we have here... :coolnana:

I have a Q.....

that diff you are using.... what's it from?

The diff is from a Sierra XR4i LSD (viscous type).
Crown wheel and casing is removed, a cover welded over the planet gears and two bearings with carriers to hold the shafts.
Lube is via a grease nipple. You just fill it up via grease gun using a high temp lithium grease.
West Garage Engineering (just do a google search) supply sprockets with the number of teeth you need and the correct Diff bolt pattern. They will also will cut the sprocket in two. This means that you can change them easily without removing the driveshafts.
Changing the sprocket ratio can be done if you want to race at long/short circuits etc.

On another note, I mentioned on the "A" forum that I fitted a Flatshifter plus auto throttle blip to my R1 and got slated. Things like I wasn't a true driver using artificial aids and not heel and Toeing (flatshifter and blip do this).
Now they are raving about the atom 500 with it's flatshifter and traction control.........................go figure :run:

so it's actually not that complicated, sounds like any car's diff should then be able to be used, just by closing it up around the spidergears and inserting a G-nipple, how does it seal where the side shafts go into the diff....

to me sprockets are as easy as drawing them in Auto-cad and emailing them to the Lasercutter, 3 days later I have my sprockets...

There are already shaft seals on the Sierra diff.
I don't know about other manufacturers diffs though.

Awesome job man. Ariel...might come after you, lol.

I really like the use of the aero tube steel for the A-Frames.

If the weather is good this Sunday, Complete Kitcar Magazine are doing a photo shoot/write up on the MotaLeira.

What are your impression about how it drives?

As mad as a box of frogs! :D

Acceleration is very fast, engine urges you to push on.
Grip is excellent (not tried wet). Sweet spot on suspension height needed to be found and push rods altered accordingly (air suspension).
Likes hard suspension for minimum body roll.
Eats roundabouts! :D
Flatshifter makes gear changes effortless, both up and down shifts.
