Hi Guys ,
Just wanted to introduce myself , I am a Brit , currently living in Illinois (out here for a 5 year deal with my wifes job ) but will be returning to our home in Mid Wales , UK in the early summer next year.
I had plans to build a Cobra replica before things changed and we ended up in the states so my plans got put on hold . It turned out well though as I got to get my 1982 Collector Edition Corvette , a car I never thought I would have the chance to own . I love it and it will be going home with me next year.
Anyway , I have been a little nervous about doing a cobra as a first kit build for a while and then with all of the economic stuff going down at the moment the bigger outlay for a cobra is also a bigger risk. So..... to cut a long story short , I would kill to have a go in an Atom and always thought it would be great if there was a kit version available , I mentioned this on another forum recently and thats when someone mentioned the Rocket.
I am now almost certain that I am going to build a Rocket as my first kit car (I still intend to do a Cobra ) as it looks like a simpler build to start out on and the much lower budget is a BIG plus.

So , I would be interested to hear from all you guys that are building or have built a Rocket . How did you find the build experience , what donor cars did you use , where did you get the donor ?
How did you fair against MEV's projected budget of 6 grand ?
Are you pleased with the end result of your labours ?

I have found a couple of great sites that record the build of a Rocket , both are mentioned on other threads on this forum .
I think one of the sites owners is a member on here - mevrocket ??? - so if you read this post , I would love to hear your views . The diamond plate for the floor looks so much better than the factory plate by the way :thumb2:

Anyway - I look forward to chatting with you guys in the future

Thanks
Paul

The crashed donor cars can be had at the auto auction or your neighborhood salvage yard for about $1500

In US dollars the Rocket or Sonic7 I think can be turn key under 10k . Nobody I know of has come forward in the USA with a finished product, so this is speculation. Watch this forum for more info soon.

If you are planning a Rocket or Sonic7 purchase while you are here in the USA PM me.

Hi and thanks for the reply .
My intention is to buy and build a rocket when I return home to the UK next year . I don't have the tools or space etc out here and the house we live in here is rented (as we are only here short term ) , so I am not sure the locals or the landlord would be too pleased to see me strip a donor car on the front lawn :run:

Hi Paul ,
I am relieved to see your reply . I was starting to thing that I was not going to find anyone on the net that had built a rocket - I know there are a load out there but not too many on the internet (probably too busy out in thier rockets !! ) Anyway , I have a whole bunch of questions for you if you don't mind . ....... I have sent you a PM :thumb2:

Thanks
Paul
