Year: 1997
Make: Subaru
Model: Legacy Brighton
History:
Purchased November 2006 as a winter beater so the teg could stay out of the snow/salt and such, and so i could enjoying driving driving in the winter a little more.
being a brighton it lacked a tach so the first thing was buy another cluster and toss that in. then made a custom grille for it and painted the steelies.
over the summer of 2007 i removed much of the interior for cleaning. previous owner had a dog in there all the time, so there is more hair in that car than i care to describe.
also had a go with the famous "$50 paint job", i went the route with interlux topside boat paint. im very happy with the results tho it could still use some more time and effort into it to be better. also added an ebay intake at this time.
Winter 07-08, got a set of 94 turbo legacy wheels and Blizzak revo tires. it is now a beast in the snow and on the ice. other recent installs include a GroupA light weight crank pulley and a kartboy short shifter.
Goals:
Build and install my high comp frankenmotor, 2.5 block with 2.2 heads, i have all the big parts, just need new gaskets and for the heads to be freshened up.
install the 13.8lb fly wheel i just bought for 26 bux haha.
dont really have much else planned besides beating the crap outa it and enjoying it as much as i can.
Pics:
day of purchase.

btw 4 picture max ftl! so sorry about all the differant posts.

^ yea and its just a whole lot of fun, cause its pretty much an equalizer for fast cars and cars like mine. was bummed i only got to enjoy a day of it before the clutch died on me, but oh well thats how it goes some times.
Well, I currently drive an 1999 Infiniti Q45t for everyday going to work. The wife has an Odyssey for toting the kids around. I also bought a 1999 Tacoma when I built my house 9 years ago. Got the Ferrari 348 3 years ago, and the silver Ginetta G20 about 1.5 years ago. Igot the SL-R in t-2 months or so!!!:coolnana:

^ nice dude! im feelin pretty busch leage now haha
:old:Ah grasshopper, with age comes fancy fun....
Heck, when I was a youngster about your age I drove a 1984 Toyota Celica GT hatchback (loved that car). Then came the downswing to a 1988 Mazda MX-6 base model, then a 1996 Saturn SL1 base model, then a 1981 rabbit convertible. That was about the low point. Then I got a 1994 Inifiniti J30, then I drove the wife's 1990 integra when she got a minivan (ugh!), then my truck. I have added cars since then and not sold any...
If you are busch league, then I guess I was little league not too many years ago. And on Ferrarichat lots of people make just about anyone feel a little, um , poor???:nervous:

StatGSR,
Are you planning on building an SL-R? If so, that integra would make a good donor... Just kidding.
B-T,
You'll have to tell us if you get more attention in the SL-R or the ferrari. The 348 would make a REAL nice donor for the SL-C!
Without a doubt the SL-R will turns heads way more than the Ferrari. Around here you see at least a few Ferraris every day. Nobody has an exocar of any type that I know of locally. And the SL-R is my favorite looks wise of any of them. The Ginetta gets more looks than the Ferrari, but it is also about 5 times louder! The 348 will stay with the prancing horse on it though. A beater 348 would be good for an SLC engine, but the parts cost would make that a pricey choice. Better to get an NSX motor or something with more support. Ferrari is really aggresive in pursuing people in court that try to make a good aftermarket for their products.:thumbdown2:

I know, I was just joking about the 348. You'd get a lot of attention if you ever came to south east Idaho. The coolest cars I've ever seen in our town is a corvette Z06 and a FFR. I know, we are so deprived... Hopefully the SL-R will spice things up here.

id love to get an SL-R but there is no way it would happen for me for atleast a few more years. i still have to graduate, get a job, a house, and a garage. as well as dump money into the integra and subaru. An i probably wouldnt consider swapping the integra drivetrain unless i manage to run the teg into a wall or something haha.
im just a car nut for now and i want to own a good track car in the future. i have loved that atom since i heard about it and watch jeremy clarksons face get ripped off, but when brammo kept raising the prices and then dropped the k20 i really didnt want anything to do with it anymore, so then i started focusing on other alternatives, next best thing i could find was a lotus elise/exige with a k20 swap, but considering those will still pull pretty good money in the future it wasnt so likely happen. then i stumbled upon this forum and saw what the SL-R was as well as what it goes for, and i have a much stronger faith that i could find a track car to love in the coming years!

i was just joking, i know there is no way i could even think about "competing" with somebody like yourself, i am well aware that i am still very young and have plenty of time to build up my toy collection. im just happy that even while being a broke college kid, i still have cars i can enjoy year round and little to no debt.

I assumed you were basically joking. An engineer generally has a much more prosperous career than an architect, so I'm sure you will be able to afford a nice track car in the future.
:old:The key is to stay out of debt like you are now. Live within or below your means and everything else will fall into place.
I just got cable TV about 5 years ago!

Well, good luck to you statgsr. I was actually in your position not too long ago. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering just a few months ago. Luckily, I had an internship during my senior year and they hired me full-time the day after I graduated.
I too fell in love with the Atom after seeing it on TopGear. I was so mad after I realized how much they cost and I wouldn't be able to afford it for a long time. Then I found out about RCR... I wonder how many people Fran is going to convert from the atom fans.
Personally, I think the SL-R looks better than the atom. Also the fact that you can put whatever engine in it you want is awesome. The price difference also helps.

Same here. I was on the list for ordering an Atom a few years ago when they were first being offered here. I wanted to buy one and register it for the street, but Brammo then was promoting it as a track only vehicle. They said I might be able to register it for street use but they could not guarantee it. At a $55-65k price point loaded up the way I wanted to order it I lost interest.
So I bought the Ginetta as a slower alternative.
Now the SL-R should fill the void left in my lineup by the Atom. I still like the Atom, but I think the SL-R is superior in just about every aspect. Just sent the bank check overnight to the engine supplier so Fran should have my engine / trans around the end of next week.

Another great thing the SL-R has over the atom is you don't have to wait 18 months! I'm going crazy just having to wait a few weeks. It's so hard to resist calling Fran every 5 minutes to see how things are progressing. I don't know how those atom guys do it.
When you are the only game in town and have a captive audience they can do pretty much whatever they want to as a company. It is amazing that Fran has been able to put together a package for the price he has kept. I have never seen a product go to market like this without some creep in the original asking price. You know, like the Boxster. Originally it was going to be a $20k car. Then a $25k car. By the time you could order one it was closer to $40k. Still a good deal for what you got, but nowhere near the original concept.
The rendering that has been splashed around is like a concept car in that it is not actually built like it has been rendered yet. It will be interesting to see what the final product looks like. I know the mirrors changed, and there is no little bubble screen. There should be additional lights on the front also. The cut windshield should look good. I'm just hoping the body panels fit up really similar to the rendering. That will be key to making this car a Grand Slam!!!
I know it will be a home run, but why stop there???
I bought some books last night about how to do some things to the engine to make it more presentable. Should look good by the time I'm done.

Would you mind sharing with us any engine "blinging" tips you've learned from your book? I've found some carbon fiber (man bling) pieces for the K20 engine on ebay. When it's all hanging out like that you got to make sure it looks good.

No doubt I will post everything I am doing to the car. I got the info from a Haynes tuner book that cost $9 at Pep Boys. They recommend a braided hose cover kit that looks just like the racing hoses with anodized compression fittings. They are actually just decorative covers that go over the existing hoses and have false compression fittings that cover the hose clamps. There are also instructions for polishing the cam covers, redoing the wiring, replacing the throttle cable with a billet aluminum fitting, billet oil dipstick and oil filler cap, painting the heat shield (I think I'll make a custom heat shield). Also, detailing the engine makes it look much better, even with all the intestines hanging out... I think the custom air intake, carbon fiber intake runner cover, and maybe a supercharger would complete the engine looking good aspect. Also, a custom exhaust in polished stainless or reflective ceramic coating would be a good idea.
