I plan on covering the seats with some thin padding and leather, but that's just me. No need to knock a seat based on price. I had some cheap seats in an old VW back in the day and they were really pretty good. I finished installing my lift Saturday so I definitely have the space ready for the new SL-R! Can't wait, I plan on placing my order today!!!!:coolnana:

I have contacted about ten people who have those cloth seats and they said that they were more than satisfied with the quality. IMO they look and probably feel better than the fiberglass so I will be upgrading if you want to call it that. The only safety issue I can think of is the sliders giving out in a crash which Im not even sure is a warranted thing to worry about. Am I missing something else as far as safety is concerned?

No need for 5 slots ...only one in the submarine belt location...the rest of the harness points pass over the seat...and the wings on the seat sides...one benefit of using the real deal.

yea thats all i meant, just the seat slot for the crotch killer. i know the others dont need slots.

idk, after seeing the angle iron in the base of a seat destroy it self just by being sat in on some $250 recaro style seats, i wouldnt be big on trusting them with my life. thats all im saying.

How much do you weigh? lol jk. I still can't think up a senario where the seats would take away from safety unless the sliders broke.

Geez, fantastic lift. I'm jealous man!

From what I've read, leather is a bad covering for any performance seat, as your butt won't get any traction on it thru the corners, and sliding will result.

And since my SL-R may have to be parked in the TX summer sun ocassionally, the last thing I want to sit down on is leather!

well i wasnt in there when they broke, tho i was the same 150 as the guy in the seat when they broke. all he did was sit in the car while parked, put on the 4pts, then shake around in em a bit to see how they felt, then the internal base of the seat destroyed itself.

Just some additional details. (Don't take this as gospel, although the details are correct to the best of my knowledge.)

* 18" wheels will be available as an option. We have already ordered 18" wheel kits.

* The chassis has in-built mounting points for all body panels.

* Kit is supplied with fibreglass housing/dash binnacle for the digital gauge cluster to fit into.

* There is a torque bar with rod ends that attaches from chassis to rear engine mount. This is to reduce engine torque movement. Supplied on all kits.

* T6061 Aluminium Floor Pan

* T6061 Aluminium Engine Firewall

* Seat Belt mounts included

* Dimensions: 96" wheel base, 72" wide (with this sort of wheelbase it will be a great handling road & track car)

* Available in left-hand or right-hand drive

* 4 piston Wilwood Forged Billet Dynalite calipers front & rear

* Removable Rod End Rear Stays for Roll Hoops

The rear cross over roll hoop supports are not cross over style on the Honda K20 engine installs. The valve cover would interfere with them as it is much taller than the Ecotec engine so the roll hoop supports will come up from the sides of the frame without crossing over each other.

Thanks BT, I've updated that. Doh, I actually knew that. Serves me right from copying and pasting from my old spec sheet. :(

I have a question. I should just call Fran but what the heck.

One of my biggest complaints with our Atom was that for all it's simplicity, it was very hard to get to parts of the engine, and in my opinion all too difficult to get the engine out of the frame because of how the frame of the car wrapped around the engine.

Will the cross member that goes over the engine be removable, or is it welded in? In other words, is it going to be a royal pain to get the engine in and out? I talked to Fran a bit about it many months ago but I can't remember what was said.

All I know is that I gave up on project cars for all the bloody knuckles and raw/broken elbows that it took to work on them. =0p (not to mention all the money, sweat, and 40 hours weeks I put into cars that kept breaking from excessive power levels) Yes, I am now a wimp.

Simple and easy to work on is one of my goals for my next baby. (yes I understand building your own car will take plenty of elbow grease, but I would prefer losing less blood than I have in the past)

Cage, yes it's removeable.

I know what you are saying. It will be interesting to see which engine combos work out to be the easiest to access/service when they are fitted to the SL-R.

This is exciting!!! Who all is going to be installing the SRT4 drivetrain in their SLR's? I know I will!! :coolnana:

Laters,

Brian

PS
When do we get to see new pics of the bodywork? :D

...When do we get to see new pics of the bodywork? :D

Should be a few weeks at the most. I believe my car will be done next week, and shipped to me about a week later. Fran may be willing to post some photos when the car is ready to ship. I don't think any SL-R cars are going to the Knott's show on the 26th, so there does not seem to be a reason to delay posting pictures when the completed car is ready to ship. There is not another future date for a car show or event to present the car that I know of.

Awesome, if he doesn't then you MUST!!! LOL Where are you located anyway? I remember hearing someone saying something about TX sun frying legs on leather seats. Was that you?

I'm glad to post the pictures if Fran gives me the okay. I live in south Florida about an hour north of Miami, near West Palm Beach. It is hot here, but the temp rarely gets over about 92 degrees.
And just an FYI I am installing a Honda K20Z3 (2006 Civic Si) engine / trans.

Ok, so nowhere near me. LOL I have seen the finalized chassis at Fran's shop in October. He may have made changes from then till now though. LOL I'm really stoked to see the finalized version. What body and color are you going for?

Craig – Absolute PACE

From what I understand Fran is just focussing on getting the initial SL-R orders out. Then he will organise to take photos, provide full details of the cars etc.

Which is pretty fair of going about it.

Do you satisfy as quickly as possible the people who have already paid you money and put their confidence in you?

Or do you satisfy first the people that may one day order off you and spend the time to organise and release photos?

Someone has to miss out and I know who I would give priority to.

By the sounds of it yellow is a popular colour at the moment.

All aspects of the SL-R have been refined over time, so the chassis has had improvements incorporated into it. So I expect there are some minor changes to when you saw it last.

Blue, or Blue Pearl, or Royal Blue.. or whatever blue I can get, mixed with black and tiny bits of red and silver.

That is what I'll go with.

I went with all yellow. I'm not sure if I will keep it that way (I suspect not). I have a color scheme in mind that should accent the lines of the body. Looking forward to it for sure!
