Hey guys of course I'm exploring my options for this kit...for me its easy, the most stock power the better, less I gotta do later

So considering the svt zetec motor is what I'm believing to be the same zx3 motor with different internals, better intake and exhaust porting and matched headers and a six speed tranny...in technicality it should fit mount wise. Anyone do this? Consider this? No if it will be as easy as the basic zetec donor swap? Or if the guys at mev have looked into this? I like the idea of the six speed and upgraded power. Be lookin at about 320hp per ton roughly guestimating a little more weight added for the tranny

If not, no big deal I'm not really looking to spend weeks figuring out what to do with the swap and what id need to customize, mostlikely axles but I believe the focus is same basic platform all around

Thanks

Derek

I'm willing to bet that any motor/tranny combo that came out a focus will physically mount up to frame in the MEV. After all, do you think ford made different chassis stamps for all the different foci? Hell no, they changed the mounts themselves. I'd bet you'd be good with the axles as well.

thats what i was thinking as much as i hate american cars ill gladly decomission a svt off the streets haha

see i know with my civic i could basically interchange anything between my ex and an si...but i know a cobalt base and cobalt ss is a completely different chassis you can tell just by looking at it

the focus is a euro. Dont ball it in with all the other American crap from that design period.

Most American cars sold right now are pretty good

Yea I'm not gonna diss a dieing breed too much, hopefully they make it through bankruptcy with a product line that appeals to what people are shopping for not new trucks and suvs

I'm going to have to do some digging on the svt compared to the zx3....like I said I'm only assuming but even if the tranny is a different size the axles will still fit the base platform so I think they will still work...oh this is for sure gonna be a project...now to find an svt to beat around for a little till I can gather the money for the chassis kit

they had one fs in nola a month or so ago that would have been perfect. it was like 3k, because of a rough body and stuff.... at the time i had the same doubts as you with fitment and passed on it. I ended up getting that turbo car instead. My frame is being made for an IB5 trans supposedly, but I still think they are all going to be the same or extremely similar.

I used to run a ZX3 Focus spec racecar and met with the SVT guys when they brought their SVT race car to the track. If my memory serves me correctly the only substantial difference between the Ztec and SVT engines were in the head and of course the 6sp trans. Mounts connected to the same points on the chassis. My only concern with the stock mounts is that they were weak. I had ripped the engine out of the car twice due to aggresive driving. Considering the abuse the car had taken the engine was very solid. We found as much as a 15 horsepower difference between the stock production motors due mainly to the press on cam gears and got the motors pretty evened out by using adjustable gears to even the playing field.

yea from wat i read major difference was pistons and porting...granted i will not pay 5 grand for a donor svt like ive been seeing...if i find a decent low miled xvt for 3 grand id pick it up...if not ill find a sub 2grand zx3 and plan for a turbo

or was that aggressive spinning?

mannnn.....found a salvage zx4, 75,000 miles...granted its automatic but for possibly only 750 bucks i wish i had the need for it so soon

was on salvage direct, i guess there was a reserve price that wasnt met and the bid was at 1,050 but still for a rear end collision everything we would need is intact im assuming it will be back up eventually

Why not buy this NEW ZX5 motor for $1,350? It's so damn cheap you could throw a bunch of aftermarket stuff at it and get more horsepower than a used SVT.

Yes?

believe me im plannin on doin something similar, my whole thing is right now i need to round up a cheap donor car, i wanna have the parts available when i will need them. then round up the money for the kit purchase and anything else i feel i would need or things i definitly will need...im only 20 by the way haha

but i think end of summer for the kit is realistic for me, i do got bills to pay and i wanted a winter project anyways, so summer/fall around october would be perfect

what i wanna do is get a donor car and run the car stock for a year as im doing that i'll purchase a motor, lightly turbo it or supercharge it, and swap it the following winter along with anything else i feel i should upgrade after the first year with the car

so right now im not in a hurry, and buying just a motor wont help me much when i would need a donor car either way

good look though when i do purchase a motor for forced induction, IT will be new

fine and dandy if your lazy...one thing ive learned about na engines that are turboed is not to skimp any point of the build. i dont trust anyones work and would feel alot safer and better knowing i put in the wrench time. like i said it would be a project after the project so its not crucial, i dont trust someone turboing a car with 100,000 miles and not expecting things to go wrong. turbo kits can be made/sourced very cheap if you know what your doing...check out homemadeturbo if you dont believe me, a little searching, a little patience and a little elbow grease can weild a very nice low psi set up for as little as 500 to 1000

I'm using an SVT Focus drivetrain in my Rocket. Transmission is a bit bigger and the shifting mechanism needs a bit of alteration, but it works.
