I am trying to sell my 911sc to fund my SL-R. Being a Porsche fan I have grown fond of German engineering and quality. I am considering a VW drivetrain for my SL-R.

There are plenty of power upgrades for VW 4/6 cylinder engines. The unique thing I am trying to add is an automatic. Earlier vintage tiptronic tranny's seem to be a OK option. What I am really trying to develop is the use of a late model DSG(Direct shift gearbox). I have visions of popping through the gears like a Indy car. The concern is the complexity of the control. I purchased a service manual to understand the DSG operations. It is quite complex.

Has anyone considered this option? Is there a aftermarket sequential gearbox that would bolt to a Ecotec engine?

I haven't considered the option but I'm sure somene here has. You'll find plenty of encouragement here to pursue your goals. I like the sound of your SL-R. Let us know what you find out. A thread like this often becomes a meeting place for ideas and suggestions on making a new project happen.

Here is a thread on the Atom forum about the subject that offers some good information. http://forum.atomclub.com/index.php/topic,2861.0.html

I had looked at the DSG, but it seems it might not be worth it due to the complexity/weight.

Did you find an alternative sequential gearbox? I found a few alternatives specifically designed for racing but cost is nearing $10,000. I figure it would be better spending the $ on HP verses shift response.
