We've all been waiting for months to see the pictures of the finished SL-R. Today's the 26th, the day we were told there would be pictures...let's see them.
Yes, it was also said somewhere that Fran might not be showing an SL-R at the event in California afterall.

The Superlite Roadster body work is currently being mounted on the chassis. They are working today (Saturday) in hopes to get some pictures out Monday-Tuesday.

RCR have been working on getting the initial customer SL-R orders well underway, then get photos out. Which is fair to the customers that have put up money early for cars.
So shouldn't be long now for photos.

Absolutely. So when you get yours on Friday, you gonna post us some pics of it? :thumb2:

Unfortunately there is nothing special to see, it's just the chassis and parts.
Our body panels are shipping separately this week. We had other body panels to send, so combined all the body panels into one shipment to reduce shipping costs.
Plus by getting the chassis early, we can certainly progress the build.
I'm hoping we might have some photos from Fran well before we receive our chassis.
It should not be very long now until there are photos available. Then we can all go back to work.

Kinda of interesting the pressure / excitement of bring a product market. Can be fun and tiresome I bet. I hope it is still fun for Fran. :pirate:

Im sure fran has had at least one completed slr for a while. Thats why I dont understand why there are no pics. I mean shoot he couldnt be shipping to customers soon if he didnt have a completed product.

I don't think so. Fran has built several chassis, but the bodywork has not been completed to my knowledge. The latest indication that I heard was that the body panels for my car were going to be done on Friday last week. Now assuming that they were delivered to his shop on Friday, they will be fitted to the car this week. The problems with fitting, and completing the car around this bodywork may take some time, so we will see shortly how well thought out the car design is. I have a good feeling about it. During my shop visit on the 16th I saw a mock up of one of the front fenders and it is very similar to the rendering. the only difference is that the brake duct sits back slightly from the front edge of the fender. It was kind of up in the air whether the car would have rear fenders at all since there is very little clearance between the front of the rear tire and the fixed side pod component. I'm hoping there is at least a small cycle fender on the rear tires.
My bet is that Fran probably knows that once the pictures are released there will be several more orders, so if the car design is not totally worked out it doesn't make sense to release the photos. Getting several orders for a car that may still need some development / tweaking will only lead to lots of calls from anxious customers. In a sense the first few cars are almost prototypes / development cars since I don't believe there has ever been a fully operational superlite roadster. The car that has been photographed previously is a 'proof of concept'.
Of course the anxiety many people may be having is that they currently have the funds for the project, but the stock market is decreasing the value of the funds monthly.:awais:

Hope to see it soon. Been waiting for some pictures for a while now. Good to hear about the rear fenders though, since I didn't really like how they looked.

Personally I really hope he can make those fenders work. I think they look great, complete the car, and provide a good spot for the rad/intercooler.

Yeah, it looks great. I mean I've seen one in real life, actually that was the one you all see pictures of to the right over there... >>>
The updated version that you all are getting I have also seen in real life at Frans shop. There are quite a few changes to help with strength and rigidity and all that jazz. The ones people are getting are going to be awesome. I just want to see one that has started to be built and I really can't wait for one to be on the street/track. I'm just an impatient bastard. LOL

The SRT-4 was fitted in the a car for the engine mounts setup, the K20a will be the Demo car engine.

Do you have exact weight #'s for the three "standard" configurations?
Conquest351

I believe Fran said 1300 +/- for the car wet (fuel, oil, etc.) for the 3 main configurations. I could be mistaken though.

I’m only guessing by comparing the SLR to the ATOM. If the SLR has larger tires, larger wheels, larger brakes, larger wheel bearings and hubs with 5 lug bolts, roll bars behind two seats, more metal under the seats and floorboards, farings in front of the tires, air ducts for the rotors, where is the weight saving? The Atom I drove with a Honda engine, was as light as possible with fixed seats, non removable steering wheel, no passenger foot rest, no fire control system and it was close to 1375 pounds on a calibrated scale. I’m thinking that a closer weight might be a lot higher than the 1300 +/-. Until we get an actual weight, I’m not buying the advertised weight even though I'm hoping Fran's right.

The Honda will be the lightest. The Mitsubishi 4G63T will be one of the heaviest.
I do know the chassis isn't that heavy, with the help of a friend I easily lifted it off the back of a truck and carried it by hand. Just one person each side. It actually looks heavier than it is in my opinion. I wasn't confident we were going to be able to lift it by hand when I saw it in the flesh.
By my calculations the SL-R has nearly 4" extra in the wheelbase compared to the Atom. Just over an 1" extra in width. I can see that the extra size will be of great benefit on the track.
I have been quoting roughly 650-680kg(1433-1500lbs) with the 4G63T and with F1 body fitted.
It will be interesting to see the finished weights. Fran has done his best with keeping the SL-R as light as possible while still building a safe and reliable vehicle.

Let us know Craig!!
In pounds, not kilo's... crazy metric system....
:old:
I've sat in and practically crawled over every square inch of a prototype SL-R. I've owned an Atom.
The weight difference will not be large but the SL-R will be lighter. Why? Its simple. The Atom has thicker steel tubing all over the place. The typical Atom has a larger fuel tank (I think), heavier seats, and probably more plastic and body work. Roll bars, larger brakes, wings, and so on, also add quite a bit of variety to the end weights of various cars.
The SL-R is an Atom with a little fat trimmed (and forty thousand dollars).
Here is a quote from an Atom owner or two:
"My 230 HP car weighed 1,365 (wet) early on. After adding roll bar, wings, remote oil filter, etc. I'm at 1,430 or thereabouts depending on how much fuel is in the tank. When we weighed Sharpatom's UK Honda (220) it came out about 1,250 without wings or rollbar. All weights measured using Intercomp corner scales."
"Weighed my car agin today before going to the track.
Atom 245 with fiberglass seat, roll protection bar, Dymags, C/F wings and owner fabricated side panels, no lighting, no fenders, all fuids including 3/4 tank of fuel = 1,397 lbs."
"My K20A tipped the scales at around 1430lbs. with Recaros, the rollbar, and about 8.5galUS of gasoline. With the rollbar off, it slips in under 1400."
