I am considering importing a Sonic7 or a Rocket to start a build. Does anybody know how much the tariffs and taxes are to import the kit from the UK into the US. Thanks.

Not much, actually. You will probably want to work with an import broker, such as a company like Expeditors International. They will handle everything for you, including inland freight if you'd like, and will ask you (or the manufacturer's rep) for any missing documents.

Shipping, customs, duty, brokerage & handling fees, forklift charges, document fees, fuel surcharge, inland freight could cost you $1,800 - $2,000. This all depends on how far you live from a major port, and whether you're willing to pick up the box and/or do the paperwork yourself. Both are do-able and time consuming. How much is your time worth?

Lucky for me, I live less than an hour from one of the largest ports in the US, the Port of Houston. Also, I have a pickup with access to a large flatbed trailer. Thanks for the advice on the import broker.

You may end up paying 30-40% less!

I did everything through Panalpina. There is a lot of paperwork, but having them as a shipper and broker was a breeze. They let me know when it was at their loading dock and I just picked it up. Just make sure it is listed as "automobile parts"

taxes for my kit were in the 600 dollar range.

I was told shipping would be £2000, or nearly $3500 USD, to "most parts of the US". I would assume this is prior to taxes and such. Has the dollar dropped that much already? It seems like others here had been quoted much less.

the dollar has taken a poop, but if that includes crating fees that sounds about right.

That sounds a bit high--like the cost of a 20' container. You can find out in less than an hour: get the following information:

--shipper address
--your address
--crate dimensions and weight
--contents (automotive parts, race car parts) ask your freight forwarder

Contact Panalpina, Expeditors International or a couple freight forwarders in your area. They should be able to offer an ocean and air quote. I think my AIR shipment was less than $3,500. Why the hell did I ship by air.....
