Can anyone explain to me how the shift linkage will bolt up to the car and engine? I know that the Honda engines for example have a metal rod directly from the shifter in to the trans. How will this be engineered when the shifter is on the opposite side of the engine than it would be in the production vehicle it was intended for?

The engine I bought (K20A) comes with a shifter cable, not a shift linkage. That is something we're going to have to figure out once the car comes. I was hoping I could just extend the cables and make some brackets to hold them. I'm not sure if that's going to work or not.

Gotcha - My Fit has a cable linkage, but the B-series for my Mini has rod. My concern was whether its rod or cable, either one will be coming to the engine 180° from where it was intended by the manufacturer.

With the kit supplied shifter box I am assuming it will need new cables or ends.

I have a manufacture waiting to make the needed cables for the Honda setup.

The original Honda shift cables come from the rear of the transmission not from the front, as it will in the SLR. The options are to use longer cables and just route them from the front around to the back. A more elegant approach might be to reverse the travel with a leaver as is done with the Honda transmission when in the Atom. This mechanism will introduce some slop and add complexity but it will save some weight.

I found some after market shift cables for the K-series. These are built by a company called Hybrid Racing that seems to build very quality products. I've talked to the owner and he can build them to a custom length for about 10% extra of what they're advertising them for.

I know the cables that I got with my engine are looking a little shabby and it will be nice to have some good looking cables since there is no tunnel where you can hide them.

Just another idea for you guys with extra money pouring out of your ears looking for something to spend it on.

"shifter top" is a modified Prelude shifter. I cut the handle off and tacked it on the bottom. I turned the whole shifter upside down so the handle points up again, then rotated the whole thing 180. Then I moved the selector actuator from the front to the rear and turned it 180 to face forward and down. The bottom line is that I got the cables going out the back and have a push-push action for first gear and it fits under the two tubes between the seats.

"cable mount mod" shows how I pointed the selector cable mount down instead of upwards.

"cables from the rear" shows how the shift cables exit to the rear and bend back forward under the engine . I spliced the cables so that they reach the shifter and ran them under the tank which I lifted up as far as it would go; about half an inch.
The transmission is still mostly dry and the clutch line isn't connected yet but it shifts pretty nice.

I'm Still with skibum on this one, I'm intending to do this with The Honda b series engine and this one typically has the 2 long rods as the shift linkage from the factory setup. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or has done this in a buggy type car since the point in which the Linkage needs to mount up will be facing the rear of the vehicle. My car will be mostly based on the Warner R4...mostly. ;)

I know there are cable B-series transmissions out there, they might be hard to find though. I really see that as your only option without some serious fabrication. Here is an article that explains a little more about your options. http://www.jdmcars.com/tech/admin/bseries_tranny.pdf

If you need a motor and tranny, www.hmotosonline.com is a great place to buy it, I've heard a lot of good things, unfortunately they don't just sell transmissions. I'll give you a lot of credit sticking with the B series, it's a great little motor, had a lot of fun with my 01 Integra GSR.
