I think the side scoops in front of the rear wheels are gorgeous, and should have been in a brighter color to draw attention to them, perhaps matching the hood color like in the prototype drawing.
This car simply begs for an after market wing/aerofoil for cosmetic value alone. The new rounded braces over the engine may make an excellent mounting point.

I think with the universal style gt3 mirrors and cloth or leather racing seats in all black or all yellow it will look amazing. I really like what fran did with the rear bars as opposed to the cross over bar. Does anyone know if rear fenders are in the works or will we just have to figure that out on our own? I also think the rounder roll bars in the rendering flow with the lines of the car better. Simple fix if Fran is willing. Exciting stuff, I cant wait to see some more with some variation.

most definitely very impressive.... that nosecone leaves space for a serious F1 style multifoil wing, that will not look like an afterthought... the way my idea sometimes look to me.... :)
those air-scoops at the back, are they to be functional or just cosmetic....

Gage, I do no think there are any more "finished" pictures.

The side scoops will be functional.
The side scoops are housing elements for the radiator on one side and an element of your choice on the other. You can add another radiator, an oil cooler, or an intercooler. Here are some pics I have from my shop visit. I think the body panels in all yellow will be a good start. The pictures posted above appear to have the front fenders riding a little high over the wheels, and the rear wheels appear to project out a little from the face of the rear pods (the rendering makes this element appear flush).

The front fenders in your pictures BT appear to fallow the lines of the wheel much better and fit much more flush. I like how they are flat around the flat part of the tire where as the ones pictured above look like old school bicycle fenders.

Fran is friggin amazing man. Think about it, what other kit car manufacturer do you know who has factory racing involvement, plus builds & prototypes parts for top auto makers as well as helps them build their own concept cars?!! Dude, it's insane! Fran has way too much on his plate. Soon that new shop he moved into is going to be too small.
Thank you for the great "in contruction" photo's guys. They somehow look better than the car presented at the show. Also, the bright yellow side scoops lookes fantastic.

Excellent! I am looking forward to seeing some more completed SL-R's in the next few weeks.
When do we get this:

I'm looking forward to seeing a completed SL-R in my garage in the next few weeks. The original timeline given during my shop visit has come and gone, so I have no clue when the car will be finished for shipping.:nervous:

What about lighting?
From the limited pictures of the Carlisle show car it appears to have the newer body panels, but less of a complete car compared to the "Proof of concept" previously photographed (no lights / shifter / engine / trans, etc...). On the Carlise car, the rear track appears much wider or the rendering glossed over the alignment of the rear pod / outside of the rear tire. When you look at the rendering it appears much more cohesive (design-wise) since the rear tire / side pod appear as one unit where the Carlisle car has the rear tire just kind of hanging out there. I assume Fran has some thoughts as the delays we have seen so far have been attributed to "Getting it right the first time". It could just be the angle of the few pictures, but the front splitter appears smaller on the show car compared to the rendering. It is probably the same as the one in the photos I took during my shop visit, but without the suspension / wheels it is hard to tell the size of it. It should be a good platform to bolt some additional front aero device to in any case.
I am still not sure how this car will drive since nobody has ever had one to test yet. It looks like it should be fully adjustable so a few days / weeks of chassis tuning should get it working very well based on the assumed balance / weight of vehicle and power being applied. I was under the impression prior to ordering the car that it was being developed and tested, but I have never seen a picture of one moving under its own power. I would sleep much better if someone informed me of a 'tested' car out there. IIRC Fran said he shipped something like 11 cars prior to my shop visit. Surely there must be one put together by this time???

I know he has shipped some overseas. I don't know about you, but I like the fact the rear tires aren't completely covered. I mean yeah, a little covering would be nice, but having them completely covered would make it harder for you to put some super fat wheels & tires on it. I like the fact that if I wanna go out to the track, I can throw the widest wheels & tires I want on the car and get after it. There's no fenders to flare, cut, or roll. Just get the right offset and you're good to go. I'm sure it'll take a bit to dial it in, but it'll be fun as hell!! If someone wants to ship me one to test, I'll be more than happy to help out. Hell, I'll do it for the cost of fuel alone, you don't have to pay me anything. :coolnana:
Fran emailed me that my car should be ready to ship on Friday!!!:coolnana:
I should get it delivered here within about 7-10 days after that. Worry has turned back into excitement. Yellow should look totally outstanding. Maybe I will do some of the engine in flat black....

There is a thermal paint that will help heat distribution, you could always paint the block with that as it's a flat black with a slight wrinkle finish if I'm not mistaken. Let me see if I can find the link to it...
Well hell, I can't find it. I remember it was somewhere. Anyone else know? Duplicolor makes a high temperature engine paint that is supposed to help with heat transfer, but I can't find a dedicated paint. Ah well. Congrats on your car and we hope to hear all about it when you get it on the road!!!!
I got some info on the black wrinkle finish paint from some folks at Ferrarichat.com. I think I'll give it a try.

nice pictures! i liked the idea of having that new rear roll bar instead of the
X-brace. Makes things so much more easier. Man i cant wait to get a depost in now. things are looking good. Cant wait for one thats fully complete.

This seems like a poor way to get information on what we're buying and waiting for but be that as it may, here're some more pics to add to your personal photo album.
Heres' what I think will balance the color distribution on my car and I've not seen the gas tank picture up here... so here it is. The proto had floor mounted pedals but I was told that the production will hang so I turned these to look like hangers.

you can get heat dispersant coatings but would need to strip the engine down to the block

Yes, the production cars are supposed to have hanging pedal sets provided by Wilwood (not the stainless RCR units), and here are my photos of the gas tank.

I hope there are some baffles in there. The fuel is going to be sloshing all over in corners and will make for tough fuel pick-up in that shape tank.

what do the rear side scoops lead too? I hope they actually cool something rather than just for looks.

Yes, the radiator goes in one of them, and I probably will put an oil cooler in the other one. I will also paint the inside of them black.
You can use the passenger side one for an extra radiator, an oil cooler, an intercooler, or to hold a six pack of beer, for when you want to chill by the river....
Your choice!

Or a big nasty intercooler? Well, I dunno about big... May have to try to figure that one out when the time comes.

The best use for the scoops is for your numbers on track day. Kudos on the bodywork. It is aggressive yet not overstated. Mine will be monotone, the fenders are worth noticing.
I'm not sure about the seats, I hope there is a delete box on the option list. The seat design on the copper design rendering make the car look like a higher dollar vehicle than the "plastic seats".
Overall, I'm still sold.
P.S. My 911 is still on the market to fund this project.

Just to answer some queries in this thread.
The fuel tank is foam filled.
The seats in the demo car are fibreglass with yellow gelcoat. The kit is just supplied with fibreglass seat shells. So you will need to get them trimmed yourself. I've seen a few of the Lotus 7 replica guys foam them up themselves and then just use a nice set of seat covers that are pulled tight and wrapped over the seats. For the understated look, you could use just plain black covers. If you do it right they can also be removed to be washed if required. Certainly a cost effective solution.

The base atom has fiberglass seats and most owners like them. It fits the design of the car: if it does not have a function it should be there.

Or you can leave the seats bare. :D
For me, it's all about driving enjoyment and some little luxuries are nice to have, like padded seats. But others will want just the bare essentials. Just the great thing about this car, you can add as much or as little as you want to it. :coolnana:

thats excatly why i like it. As much as i like and if not, take it off.
I really like it bare looking on RCRs website. I might add some foam pads to the seat if im driving long distance like to the beach or the mountains.
also what i did noticed was some of the Atoms have nice Recaros in them. wonder if there like water resistance or anything like that incase of rain!

My friend and I drove out Atoms 2700 miles to a club meet that fall and he had unpadded fiberglass seats and he did fine. It all depends on the shape of the seat. I had recaros and they were fine too.

They fill the gas tank with this foam that looks like the foam you get on those really cheap camping foam pads (the ones that look like an egg crate). The gas can travel through the foam, but it doesn't 'slosh' around. They also use it to prevent the fuel igniting in a crash.

I imagine with the fiberglass seats, that they're either very comfortable or not depending on your body type. I guess you can use that as an excuse to not give rides to really fat people!
Fran made seat covers for the SL-C. To me, it looks like he used the same seats for the SL-R and SL-C. If so, I wonder if he'd be willing to make more and sell them for the SL-R as well? I really want to get some of those heat warmers so I can drive mine a few more weeks out of the year and just hide them under the seat covers.
