In the stock format it looks like the turbo intercooler is not the external version that I am use to seeing. Am i seeing that right for this engine?

In your photos, the turbo is on the bottom side of your photos. All you can see is the heatshield for the exhaust manifold and the turbo is below that.

Just took some better photos for you. We have a stack of 4G63T's here at the moment.

The intercooler is a separate piece. You wouldn't want to run the factory intercooler anyway.

Most of these engines also have engine oil cooler fittings as some of the donor cars had factory oil coolers.
