Hello all, this is my 1st post here.

I have been inspired by the Warner R4 car (on the locost forum) and am planning on build such a vehicle, and I have a couple of questions I thought i ask here.

Engine selection.
I am planning on using a yamaha R1 bike engine, (total wight of car 400kg), is there any tips, advice or warnings I should know about this engine before I commit to buying one?

Fuel Tank Size
What size fuel tank should i aim for? dont want anything TOO big, but just curious to what people run, and what sort of milage they get with a similar bike engined concept?
2nd - is there any good places to get 'off the shelf' fuel tank. If i have a pre fabricated tank. It will help in the registration process.

Thanks.
Tim

This is an older post but no one replied so I will do so now.

Newer R1 engines are EFI and will require you to have the ECM and wiring to run the engine. Buying an older, but still wicked fast, carbeurated R1 engine would be much easier to graft into a car chassis.

I used a 10 gallon fuel cell on my AWD swapped Dodge Colt that had a 2.0 turbo engine. It did not require me to fill up an unreasonable amount of times throughout the course of regular driving. I would think a 10 gallon or even 8 gallon would be fine for a ExoCar running a fuel sipping 1,000cc bike engine. I have no guesstimate on fuel mileage. Find what the bike made and subtract appropriately for weight.

http://www.jegs.com is an excellent place to purchase pre-made fuel cells. The Colt had an aluminum version, my CRX has an 8 gallon plastic version and I have a plastic 16 gallon version hanging around from a previous project. They are all made very well and perform as you would expect a fuel cell to perform.
