The location of the stearing rack....

how do you not have bump-stear with it located so high, not meaning to diss you, just that I had some nasty bump-stear, and mine was just like 35mm to high...

Fran has been on vacation. He should be here soon to help with the questions.

The production rack is not mounted in this location.
It is mounted on the same axis as the upper control arm.....

We were playing with some radical suspension theories with the proto.

The steering on this car will turn far enough to engage the inside of the wheels on the back lower aframe. I installed spools to limit the travel. These were 0.7 inches wide and have a snug fit on the rack so that they will travel with the end of the rack and not provide an accidental premature stop if they jam while positioned some where in the middle. The 0.7 inch limit provides about 0.7 inch clearance for the wheel at limited stop. I did not align the tow-in first so this tolerance will change slightly as the tow-in is adjusted. To avoid confusion, let me state that I installed one spool on each end of the rack although I only show one side in the pictures. I also polished the head of the bolts that interfere slightly with the rubber boots so that they won't tear the boots.

The steering wheel that I got (and requested) is probably a down grade from the "D" shaped wheel Chad received. Here are pictures. Mine mounted and the "D" in hand.

looks Like that "D" wheel might cause some problems on a tight race course. I think you made the right choice.

Mine is a little different than the one you saw in the shop. I don't have that fancy RCR logo in the middle of mine. Where did you get your steering wheel Aloysius? I've never driven with a flat bottomed steering wheel so I'll have to test it out really well to see if I like it.

Does anyone know what brand steering rack is used on SL-R?

Thanks!

Thanks Fran, looks like a good steering rack. I have a old used Porsche 911 manual rack for my homebuilt but I have been thinking there must be a better option that doesn't cost a fortune.
