Im going to start buiding my Exo car here soon, but I have one question before I start is what engine to choose from? I live in Clovis NM(ya I know, WHERE?). So im limited to the amount of junkyards around here. Here are some of the stuff I want for my engine.
Lite weight (aluminum block)
Must have reverse
Capible of hitting 400hp if need be
less than 100,000 miles
and around $2,000

Mit Eclipse 4G63 is not an aluminum block but fully capable of 400hp reliable and thay are reasonably priced at $2k+ for engine and trans. What build plans are you using for you car?

I just now noticed you are in Clovis. You definately need to build a car because there isn't anything else to do. That being said you should be able to find a 2nd gen GST or GSX for a drive train.

YA I know, Id rather be in Afghanistan than Clovis. Any way, a friend of mine is a big DSM fan and he said the 4G63 but dosent it have shift linkage. and how hard would it be to move ti ti a RWD setup. The frame is going to be like the Atom but the back is more like the Stevew busa BEC, because I dont like how the Atoms bottom main tube cuts inward towards the back of the car.

Well today at work I looked at a few choices of engines
Honda K20 Rare
Honda H22 High Comp/ to much work for Boost
DSM 4G63 Iron Block
Mistubishi 4B11 To Expensive/Rare
so here is my current choice
GTIR SR20DET W/FWD Trans Already turbo making 230 hp

But how do you work with the non cable shift shifter for a rear engine setup

The Subaru isn't a cable shift but it can be adapted. I haven't looked to see what the shift mechanics look like on a 4G63 looks like, but there may be a chance it could be adapted to a cable shift.

BTW my cousin is stationed in Clovis. She should be back shortly.

ok I found out that im most likly going to use a Nissan GTIR engine @ 230hp W/ a 2004Nissan Sentra QR Trans because it is cable shift and it is a 6 speed. Total weight of engine and trans is about 385lbs. Aluminum block and turbocharged, good deal for about $1700 for the combo. Im going to upgrade the turbo to a GT2876RS w/.86 AR, that means with the 2 liter displacement/stock horsepower the turbo will start spooling @ 1900 rpm.

so how hard is it going to be to use that engine? are you going with a mid engine rear drive or placing the engine in the front of the car? i am curious seeing as how i am getting ready to attempt a very similar project myself.

also, are you using the AWD tranny, and if so are you going to do a full AWD setup with your car

I am doing a 2004-2008 Nissan Maxima 3.5 w/6 speed trans. The engine puts out 265hp/255ft/lbs of torq and weighs 330lbs. If thats not enough power they do have turbo kits for that engine. The turbo kit puts down 335hp/343ft/lbs of torq @ 5 psi and if you feel even more ballsy 395hp/415ft/lbs of torq @ 8 psi. Alot of people are having trouble with accelration at higher speeds and thats not to do with Horsepower, its to do with aerodynamics and to counter that im going with a more torque form the engine. The car will have enough hp, but more torq is what I need form 70 mph and higher for autocross.

The car will be set up as a MR chassis.

i'm gonna keep close track of your build. i am in the planning phase of my car build right now. i gotta figure out what kinda engine/drivetrain i am going to use though. i was considering a ZX14R, but it def seems way too expensive when you start adding stuff up.

i plan on being able to drive mine on the highway legally, but also be able to throw a set of lightweight wheels and racing tires on it and do autocross as well.

So why didn't you go with the Ecotec 2.0T and the 6 speed Getrag tranny? just cost vs. performance?
