Nice new pics!! I really like your design on your windshield!! Is it somewhat structural, meaning can you grab it when getting in and out of the car?
#Rotor
01-20-2008, 12:55 PM
It should be structural enough for that yes, though not exactly advisable to do so... This is actually going to be the first car with the proper Glass window installed, so it's kind of the Ginny-pig. It is however in no way strong enough to be considered as a rollover-protector... It's sole purpose in life, is to please the Powers that beee.... as it would be impossible to get the car Homologated without the shield and the wiper.
Completely removable, though I will have to say that once you drove around with the shield on, you would not want to take it off again... makes for a much much more enjoyable ride, even at speeds approaching 200Kph.
I'm estimating a top-speed gain of about 25% with the improved aerodynamics of it as well... we will have to see.... :) Not only in the car's actual top speed(with appropriate gearing), but also in the Drivable top speed. Something I noticed while driving without the shield.... 230Kph is almost impossible to bare, completely impossible without a helmet on, that's for sure, even though the car can easily go all the way through 250Kph.

On your track day, who were you playing with on the track? Details?
BTW Can you give us your Wheel base on the specs?

28° 6'35.30"E
that is the track.
It was an open track day. we where not racing or anything, just going for a couple of shake-down laps. The car performed admirably, for her first serious outing...

Not to sound lazy,,,alrighty I am a bit lazy but whats the translation from R450,000.00 ZAR to The US dollar?
JR
#Rotor
02-14-2008, 02:34 AM
devide by 7.8 +- "1 U.S. dollar = 7.74227514 South African rands, 14feb08"
I don't know what the import duties would be though, for me, to buy anything from the States, it ends up being aprox 10 times the sticker price....

had an opportunity to get the weight of the Neo1, She clocks in, with all fluids and fuel, at 701Kg. :run:
Damn... I thought. How the hell am I suppose to lose another 200Kg's on something that already lost it all...
Started to do a bit of research.... seems like 1400Lbs+- is a much closer to true figure than the quoted 456kg spec. does anyone actually know what the Atom3 really weighs with all fluids and fuel....
Karlo
02-28-2008, 07:43 AM
Atom 2 600kg = 1322lbs Unofficial with gas.

Had an opportunity to get the car properly tuned earlier this week. At this point running 95octane fuel she gives us 278Hp on the wheels at 11psi manifold pressure, We are a bit limited with the quality of our fuel here so going up with the boost is a bit risky, but she should give about 320hp on the wheels at 14psi....
Needless to say I was ecstatic...:coolnana:

I have now, for a couple of weeks, been busy with the build on my own little monster. Based purely on the design of the Neo1, along with all the little tricks I've come to learn in the build of the first two. Also a couple of tricks added to facilitate easier suspension alterations and setup.
power is still up in the air, It will be ether of the following.
4A-GZE Turbocharged :old:
4G63T Magnus :awais:
13B Turbocharged :coolnana:
20B Lightly turbocharged :coolnana::coolnana:
It's color will be Diamond Black with the frame in Sparkle silver.
and here a couple of pictures so far....

Frame construction will continue fresh in the New year, and the project will progress as funds and time becomes available... This will be a weekend\Night-time exercise, so some midnight-oil on the burner will be the thing. (and lots of coffee)
Enjoy, and please do crit\suggest where you feel it need be.

This is the tedious part of the project, getting all these sleeves and shafts made, and there's always at least 4 of each of them.... I hate repetition jobs....

The caliper, getting tried on. Notice how the inserts actually get welded in place right at the end, this is to virtually eliminate all possible warp tolerances during the weld process, I've had things pull out of whack to the tune of 20thu.... needless to say, a plan had to be made. :awais:

note that this is actually a new plug, from which a new mold will be pulled, once it's all done... It is way to heavy and about 5 times the weight of a production scoop, out of a mold.

Acquisition of the final components (20Grands worth), for completion has been finalized, and are enroute to my location.
ETA of siad components, +- Mid Feb 2011...
Fab work is virtually 99.8% complete. Only the Pedal Box mounts and rear Caliper mounts still to be done. then off to the Coaters she goes.
SO here some pics.....
